COMIC COMMISSIONS

DEKKO COMICS

I regularly work with Dekko comics as their freelance comic artist on various jobs. Dekko comics help organisations by turning information or messages into unique bespoke comics. The latest comics I helped create, highlighted key information on the interest/power grid and two marketing strategies.

The interest/power grid is a matrix used for categorising stakeholders during a change project to allow them to be effectively managed. Stakeholders are plotted on the grid in relation to the power and interest they have in respect of the project. The grid categorises stakeholders into the following four groups: low interest/low power, low interest/high power, high interest/low power, and high interest/high power. The comics we created uses the concept of “Mama Nature” selling natural hoovers, and how different stakeholders support her business.

Penetration pricing is a marketing strategy used by businesses to attract customers to a new product or service by offering a lower price during its initial offering. The lower price helps a new product or service penetrate the market and attract customers away from competitors. Market penetration pricing relies on the strategy of using low prices initially to make a wide number of customers aware of a new product. This is conveyed by a business owner releasing hundreds of pebbles into the pond to represent cheap products/services penetrating the market, as opposed to another business throwing a few pebbles and unable to penetrate the market, as their product/service price is too high.

Skimming strategy involves companies marketing products at high prices with relatively high margins. A skimming strategy works well for innovative or luxury products where early adopters have low price sensitivity and are willing to pay higher prices. This is conveyed by a business owner skimming a pebble, which represents marketing an innovative/luxury product successfully to high paying customers. Whereas the other business owner tosses a pebble into the pond, highlighting their inefficiency to market to such customers.

LOST AND FOUND

I am the comic artist for the “Lost and Found” project, which works to bring to life the inspirational stories of those that never stopped believing, and whose passion led them to rewrite the history of the species they so deeply cared about. The goal is to use the universal language of storytelling to showcase in narrative and visual format the most formidable rediscoveries of both vertebrates and invertebrates animals as well as plants from five continents. All content are freely accessible online and available in five languages English, Spanish, French, Chinese and Portuguese. The project is run by volunteers and supported by charities. You can find these comics at www.lostandfoundnature.com

SAATCHI & SAATCHI AGENCY: SMILE INITIATIVE

I was commissioned by Hiro Hong who worked at Saatchi and Saatchi agency in Dubai, to produce a comic as part of a proposal for a new initiative for HSBC. The initiative was to create a company culture across all banks and regional offices across the Middle East and Africa, that aims to promote positivity, offer guidance and help, and bring joy to their employees. They created a mascot called “JOY” to be the face of “SMILE” which I used in a comic to introduce the initiative. This comic was scrapped in the end, but I’m still proud of how it turned out!

HALSA: CHIROPRACTOR

I was commissioned by a local chiropractor at a Halsa clinic, to produce a short introductory comic for their practice. The comic I created highlights the experience of being at a welcoming and friendly clinic with the professional who helps the client feel better after an adjustment.

CUTES ARTIST CLUB

I was one of many collaborators for an e-book filled with over 200 pages of endearing and beautiful artwork. The book features over 200 artists, all based around a general coherent theme - happiness. You can find the ebook here.

I also created a comic talking about the project for my Instagram @amiluu_scribble

I provide three methods of production, colour, black and white, and black and white graphite.
